Our diverse network of 180 partners met in the capital for the #StopTheHateCA Statewide Convening. We united to share how Californians are experiencing hate and exchanged tested tools and techniques on how to fight hate across our state.
The 2025 Stop the Hate Convening included 300+ attendees from partner organizations providing anti-hate services across the state of California. Each participant joined 2 of 15 different breakout sessions throughout the day, ranging from Building Legal Services in the Face of Hate, to Community Conflict Resolution when Hate is Present. Each session facilitated group discussion and engagement among statewide community organizers. The convening ended with an empowering and future-focused plenary panel titled The Way Forward: What We Need to do to Sustain this Work.
The Stop the Hate program is the first-of-its-kind, addressing hate and protecting California’s communities. In its first year, Stop the Hate reached more than 3 million Californians through direct, prevention, and intervention services. The program is made possible by the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Equity Budget, a historic investment of $165.5 million passed by the State of California in 2021.

Stop the Hate California is invigorated by the fierce dedication of our statewide partners. At a time of increasing hate, we remain committed to fighting hateful experiences that harm our communities.
Ending the Stop the Hate program at the moment hate is intensifying would be disastrous. None of us want to dial back critical protections, especially as California’s population continues to become more diverse: 40% of Californians are Latino, 30% are immigrants, 16% are AAPI, 6% are Black, 10% are LGBTQ+ and 9% are religious minorities. All of these groups, and others, are experiencing a rise in hate crimes and hate incidents in our state. Together, we can #StoptheHate.
